Sawdust Sunday

One thing worth building, every weekend.

Privacy

This page describes what Sawdust Sunday collects when you read it. It is written to be accurate rather than exhaustive, and it changes when the site changes.

What we collect

Our own analytics do not use cookies and do not store anything that identifies you. When you open a page we record three things: which page it was, which site sent you here if any, and whether you clicked an equipment link. These are kept only as daily totals — there is no log of individual visits to go back through.

To count how many separate people visited on a given day without using a cookie, we take your IP address and browser identification, combine them with a secret and with that day's date, and store an irreversible fingerprint of the result. Because the date is part of it, the same person on two days produces two unrelated values, so the fingerprint cannot follow you over time and cannot be turned back into an IP address. We do not store your IP address itself.

What we do not collect

There are no accounts, no newsletter, no comment section and no contact form on this site, so there is nothing for us to collect and nowhere for us to store it. We do not sell data, because we do not have any to sell.

Advertising

This site does not currently serve advertising, so no advertising cookies are set. If that changes, this page will be updated before it does, and readers in the UK and the European Economic Area will be asked for consent first.

Affiliate links

Equipment links point to Amazon and carry a tag identifying this site, so that a qualifying purchase is credited to us. Following one of those links takes you to Amazon, where Amazon's own privacy policy applies. We are not told who you are or what you bought — only totals.

How the money side works is explained in full on how this site makes money.

Hosting and logs

The site is hosted on shared web hosting, and the hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, as part of running and securing the service. That is separate from anything described above and outside our control.

Your rights and how to reach us

Because we hold no data that identifies you, there is generally nothing for us to look up, export or delete. If you have a question about any of this, or want to make a request under data protection law, get in touch and we will answer.
